Today it’s a 2008 cabernet sauvignon from Chile’s Colchagua Valley that I bought at Total Wine for $9.99.
Uhh… not sure what’s going on here. I mean, Veramonte is a good name — I’ve had some very good whites from this label, and I’ve heard positive things about it from people I trust.
But this wine isn’t very good. Although it has good texture for a $10 cab, the aroma is dominated by a strange musty-basement kind of thing. One whiff, and you don’t want to drink it.
The taste is not as bad as the smell. It has moderate tannins, leather, very acidic red fruit . . . and musty basement.
Not recommended.
