Today it’s a 2012 pinot noir from California’s Russian River Valley that goes for about $12 at Costco.
This pinot has a lot going for it:
- the price is low,
- it’s Russian River,
- it is not “all cherry all the time” as many affordable California pinots are, and
- it’s entertainingly spicy and more complex than usual for this price range.
However! I will not be spending another hard-earned $12 on this one, because it has a sharp “bite” that I just don’t find appealing. You might like it, and nobody will blame you if you flat-out love it — this is definitely not a bad wine in any way. I just didn’t dig it.
